The Press Deserves Freedom, Not Privilege – WSJ

In its landmark 1972 decision Branzburg v. Hayes , the Supreme Court famously rejected the idea that journalists have privileges others do not have simply by virtue of being journalists. “The liberty of the First Amendment,” wrote Justice Byron White, “is the right of the lonely pamphleteer who uses carbon paper or a mimeograph just as much as of the large metropolitan publisher.”
